Spanish tennis player and world No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz has unexpectedly announced the end of his сотрудничпраці with his coach Juan Carlos Ferrero.
Alcaraz published a statement on social media, saying that they made this decision together. The tennis player thanked his mentor for the years they spent together.
“We reached the top, and I feel that if our sporting paths are to part, then it should be from here. So many memories flooded back to me that it would be unfair to choose just one.
You helped me grow as an athlete, but above all as a person. And I truly appreciate that I enjoyed the process. I will remember this journey that we went through together,” the 22-year-old Spaniard wrote on Instagram.
Ferrero also posted on social media, thanking Alcaraz, but noted that he “wanted to continue” working with the tennis player.
Alcaraz joined Ferrero’s academy, the former world No. 1, in 2018, and in 2019 they began a full partnership as coach and player.
Under Ferrero, Alcaraz became one of the best tennis players in the world, won six Grand Slam tournaments, and earned nearly $60 million in prize money.
