Brazil national team and Real Madrid forward Vinícius Júnior made World Cup history by matching a record previously achieved by Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
The 25-year-old striker was named the best player in all three of Brazil's group-stage matches at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Vinícius received the individual award after the games against Morocco, Haiti, and Scotland.
Before him, only two global football superstars had achieved this milestone. At the 2010 FIFA World Cup, Cristiano Ronaldo was named Man of the Match in all three group-stage games against Brazil, Côte d’Ivoire, and North Korea.
Four years later, Lionel Messi repeated the feat at the 2014 World Cup. The Argentine received the award after matches against Bosnia and Herzegovina, Iran, and Nigeria.
As a result, Vinícius Júnior became only the third player in history to be named the best player in every group-stage match of a single FIFA World Cup.
