Paramount is adapting *Call of Duty: Modern Warfare* for the big screen—the film is set to premiere in 2028
The iconic video game franchise is heading to cinemas with its first feature-length adaptation. The film will launch a broader expansion of the Call of Duty universe.
Paramount Pictures is developing a feature-length adaptation of the iconic Call of Duty franchise. The upcoming film will be based on the Modern Warfare series and will mark the first step in expanding the game's universe onto the big screen.
Taylor Sheridan is writing the screenplay, while Peter Berg will serve as director and co-writer. During the Call of Duty in Culture panel at Fanatics Fest in New York, Berg confirmed that the film will be set within the Modern Warfare universe.
Plot details have not yet been revealed. However, it is known that the film is being developed in collaboration with Activision, which is now part of Xbox.
The Call of Duty franchise debuted in 2003 and has since grown to more than 30 games. The Modern Warfare subseries, launched in 2007, became one of its most successful installments by shifting the focus from World War II to modern military conflicts.
The story centers on Captain John Price and Task Force 141 as they battle terrorist Vladimir Makarov. This storyline is also expected to continue in the upcoming Modern Warfare 4, where the central conflict will involve North and South Korea.
The film is scheduled to premiere on June 30, 2028. In addition, the project will become part of a broader strategy to expand the Call of Duty universe with new films and television series.
