Olis set a World Championship record for the most assists in a single tournament
The French winger made World Cup history with another outstanding performance in the third-place match. His achievement surpassed a record that had stood since 1970.
France winger Michael Olise wrote his name into FIFA World Cup history by setting a new record for the most assists in a single edition of the tournament.
In the 2026 FIFA World Cup third-place match against England, the 24-year-old Frenchman provided two assists for Kylian Mbappé, taking his total to seven assists for the tournament.
In doing so, Olise surpassed the legendary Pelé, who recorded six assists at the 1970 FIFA World Cup.
For the Frenchman, this year's World Cup was the first of his career. In addition to his two assists against England, he also set up teammates against Senegal, Iraq (twice), and Sweden (twice).
Meanwhile, the all-time World Cup career assist record still belongs to Lionel Messi, who has registered 12 assists at World Cups between 2006 and 2026.
