South Korea operates a cash reward program for information on illegal betting operators. According to the Korea Sports Promotion Foundation (KSPO) citing iGamingToday, informants were paid about 600 million won in 2025, exceeding $406,000.

Payouts are processed through a special reporting center for illegal betting, administered by KSPO in partnership with Korea Sports Leisure. Approximately half of the total amount was disbursed in the first half of the year, indicating high citizen engagement.

The reward amount depends on the value of the data provided. In July, the regulator confirmed that especially significant information can earn up to $135,000 per report. In December, one applicant received about $78,000 for a tip that led to the detection of an illegal bookmaker.

Authorities note that the program aims to combat the shadow betting market. In South Korea, only the state-run Sports Toto system operates legally, while participation in unlicensed betting carries criminal liability for both operators and players.
