Ukrainian tennis player Daria Snigur began her Wimbledon 2026 campaign with a stunning victory. In the opening round, the world No. 77 defeated fellow Ukrainian Elina Svitolina, the tournament's eighth seed.
The all-Ukrainian clash ended in Snigur's favor as she won in straight sets, 7:5, 6:2.
The match became one of the biggest surprises of the opening round. Daria delivered one of her best performances of the season, confidently took advantage of her opportunities, and did not allow her more experienced opponent to impose her game.
For Snigur, this is only the second time in her career that she has reached the second round at Wimbledon.
In the next round, the Ukrainian will face France's Léolia Jeanjean, who is ranked No. 132 in the WTA rankings.
