The developers of Counter-Strike 2 have introduced a new idea for Premier mode that would replace 15:15 draws. Valve has proposed determining the winner through a series of individual one-on-one duels between players.
According to the concept, if regulation time ends in a draw, the teams will move on to a penalty-style shootout. Players will compete in 1v1 duels, with opponents matched according to their position on the scoreboard: the top player faces the opposing top player, the second-ranked player faces the second-ranked opponent, and so on.
The order of the duels will be determined randomly, meaning the decisive matchup between each team's top performers could take place either early in the series or in its final rounds. While a duel is being played, the remaining players will spectate their teammate.
The match winner will be the first team to win three out of the five possible duels.
The initiative comes in response to widespread community feedback criticizing the possibility of Premier mode matches ending in draws. If approved and implemented, the changes could significantly impact not only matchmaking but also the professional Counter-Strike 2 scene by adding a more dramatic finish and making decisive moments even more exciting for both players and spectators.
