Ukrainian athlete Yaroslava Mahuchikh became the winner of the prestigious Continental Tour meeting in Zagreb. The Olympic champion claimed first place in the women's high jump at the Boris Hanžeković Memorial.
Ukraine was represented at the Croatian competition by two athletes — Yaroslava Mahuchikh and Iryna Herashchenko. The field also included strong rivals: Paris 2024 Olympic bronze medalist Eleanor Patterson, 2025 World Championships medalist Angelina Topić, and Montenegro's record holder Marija Vuković.
Iryna Herashchenko was the first Ukrainian to begin competing. She confidently opened the competition at 1.75 metres before clearing the next two heights on her first attempt. Her final successful height was 1.85 metres, which earned her ninth place.
Yaroslava Mahuchikh and Eleanor Patterson entered the competition at 1.90 metres. Both cleared the height on their first attempt. Mahuchikh then passed 1.93 metres, while her rivals continued competing.
The 1.95-metre height proved decisive in the battle for victory. Mahuchikh was the only athlete to clear it on her first attempt, while Patterson and Topić succeeded later. At 1.97 metres, the Ukrainian cleared the bar on her third attempt, which was enough to secure the overall victory.
After her rivals failed to continue the competition, Yaroslava had already guaranteed herself the gold medal. She attempted to clear 2.01 metres, but the bar remained unbeaten this time.
